Enhancing the efficiency of government digital services and accessibility for citizens.
The establishment of a special ministry, namely the Ministry of Digital, shows Malaysia's commitment to its digitalisation agenda. Without this dedicated ministry, Malaysia will not be able to compete with other countries in the digital field.
–– The Right Honourable Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim
Following the cabinet reshuffle in December 2023, the Ministry of Digital was established to lead the country's digital transformation efforts. This ministry was formed from the existing Ministry of Communications and Digital by realigning digital functions to enable more focused, holistic, and effective implementation.
Furthermore, the digitization functions within the public sector, previously led by the Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), have been enhanced through the restructuring of MAMPU into the National Digital Department (JDN), now one of the departments under the Ministry of Digital.
The ministry was officially established on December 12, 2023, to drive the national digital agenda through two main sectors: the Strategic Policy Sector and the Management Sector, with a total of seven divisions. To support the implementation of digital functions, two departments and five agencies are placed under the ministry's management, namely the National Digital Department (JDN), the Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP), the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), MyDIGITAL Corporation, CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), and MYNIC Berhad.
YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo has been appointed as Malaysia's first Minister of Digital. He is assisted by Deputy Minister YB Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong. In terms of public administration, YBhg. Datuk Haji Rodzi bin Md Saad was the first Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital. Recently, YBhg. Tuan Fabian Bigar was appointed as the second Secretary General, effective June 24, 2024.
Ministry of Digital officially operates at Menara Usahawan, Precinct 2, Federal Government Administrative Centre, Putrajaya.
