JMD @ Kapit, Sarawak is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the digital ecosystem nationwide, ultimately benefiting the people of Malaysia MADANI. This initiative aligns with the goal of increasing the contribution of the digital economy to 25.5% of GDP by 2025 and supporting the creation of more than 500,000 new jobs.
In line with the National Agrofood Policy (DAN 2.0), the National Food Security Policy, and the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council (MED4IRN), the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), an agency under the Ministry of Digital (KD), has been officially appointed as the National Digital Technology Verifier (Digital AgTech) by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to drive digital transformation in the country’s agricultural sector.
As of 2024, more than 600 Digital AgTech systems have been implemented nationwide, benefiting 30,000 agro-entrepreneurs who have received digitalisation training to enhance their skills in leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in their daily operations. Out of this total, more than 20 Digital AgTech systems powered by IoT technology have been deployed across Sarawak, covering agricultural sub-sectors such as crop farming and aquaculture.
This year, more than five (5) AI-powered systems for the aquaculture subsector, worth RM150,000, will be implemented in Sarawak.
In addition to the AgTech sessions with MDEC, JMD @ Kapit also features the Digital Community Programme in collaboration with the Kapit KEMAS Department, including cooking demonstrations using the latest technology such as the ChatGPT application.
Furthermore, a session with TikTok Shop was held to expose the public to digital platforms and share tips and techniques for online business marketing to generate income.
Other activities include the CyberSAFE Programme with CyberSecurity Malaysia and the AI untuk Rakyat session, a self-learning online programme designed to raise public awareness about Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Additionally, the MADANI Healthy Aerobics, Digital Explorace, and Digital Fun Run@Kapit 2025 activities, which attracted over 530 participants, were held in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) Kapit Division.
