MINISTRY OF DIGITAL EMPOWERS MALAYSIANS WITH AI SKILLS
KUALA LUMPUR, 25 FEBRUARY 2025 – The Ministry of Digital is committed to developing artificial intelligence (AI) talent and integrating technology into daily life to ensure that Malaysians are not left behind.
The initiatives launched by the Ministry of Digital aim to provide the necessary skills and opportunities in the digital economy.
The Ministry also acknowledges public concerns regarding AI’s impact, particularly on the job market, and has taken proactive steps to equip Malaysians with essential AI skills.
Minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo announced several key initiatives during his speech at the winding-up session of the Royal Address debate in the Dewan Rakyat today.
These initiatives include a collaboration with Microsoft to train 800,000 participants in AI, providing a platform for talent development, and driving AI transformation across sectors.
Additionally, a partnership with Google Cloud aims to enhance civil service productivity by integrating generative AI tools into daily tasks. A total of 445,000 civil servants will have free access to Gemini features in Google Workspace until 2028.
The Portal Rakyat Digital developed by MyDIGITAL Corporation, offers free online courses on emerging technologies, including AI. Three courses currently available are CyberSAFE for Citizens, AI for Citizens, and Introduction to Generative AI. Four additional courses will be launched in 2025, covering cloud computing, blockchain, data, and quantum computing.
Gobind also stated that while local AI development requires significant investment, the Ministry of Digital remains committed to this effort to achieve the goal of becoming a regional AI innovation hub.
The Ministry of Digital is confident that these initiatives will equip Malaysians with the necessary skills to navigate challenges and seize opportunities in the AI era.
