PRESS RELEASE THE GOVERNMENT IS COMMITTED TO STRENGTHENING THE BLOCKCHAIN ECOSYSTEM AND THE NATIONAL ASSET TOKENISATION FRAMEWORK
The Ministry of Digital reaffirms the Government’s continued commitment to driving the development of blockchain technology and asset tokenisation to ensure the continuity of initiatives outlined in the National Blockchain Roadmap 2021–2025.
The Ministry of Digital has been entrusted as the lead coordinator for developing policies and strategic directions for digital technology, including blockchain. In line with this role, a National Blockchain Policy Task Force comprising experts from both the public and private sectors has been established. This task force will ensure that the nation’s blockchain direction is developed in a holistic and inclusive manner.
The key focus areas of this Task Force include:
• Identifying strategic priorities and focus areas for the development and adoption of blockchain technology in Malaysia, covering both crypto and non-crypto applications.
• Examining the ethical, legal, and social implications of blockchain technology.
• Proposing mechanisms to encourage collaboration between academia, industry, and the Government in the field of blockchain.
• Presenting strategies for talent development and education in blockchain technology.
The Ministry of Digital is actively reviewing the key components in developing the nation’s blockchain policy and strategic direction, with the aim of enhancing efficiency, security, and transparency across government administration, industry, and society.
Emphasis is also placed on the application of blockchain technology through tokenisation, particularly in asset management and capital market development, to ensure transaction security and the stability of the digital ecosystem.
With regard to the regulatory framework for asset tokenisation and blockchain, the Government is developing a comprehensive framework through the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
This integrated effort reflects the Government’s strong commitment to creating a conducive environment for digital technology innovation, while ensuring a robust regulatory framework that safeguards public interests and upholds market stability.
