LENGGONG IN THE SPOTLIGHT: CAKNA DIGITAL CARNIVAL 2025 HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF DIGITAL LITERACY AMONG RURAL COMMUNITIES

LENGGONG, 20 December 2025 – The official opening ceremony of the CAKNA Digital Carnival 2025 was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, the Chief Minister of Perak Darul Ridzuan, accompanied by YBhg. Tuan Fabian Bigar, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital. The event was held at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA, Lenggong, Perak.

The Cakna Digital Carnival 2025, organised by the Ministry of Digital in strategic collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia, successfully attracted participation from various segments of the community in and around Lenggong, Perak, as well as surrounding areas.

This two-day programme serves as a key initiative to strengthen awareness and understanding among rural communities on the importance of digital skills in daily life, in line with the Government’s efforts to ensure that people at all levels are not left behind in the nation’s digital transformation journey.

The organisation of the CAKNA Digital Carnival 2025 also places strong emphasis on fostering comprehensive digital awareness, encompassing personal data protection, cybersecurity, and the prevention of online scams, which are increasingly prevalent in Malaysia. According to statistics from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), a total of 67,735 online scam cases involving losses exceeding RM2.77 billion were recorded between January and November 2025, underscoring the urgent need to strengthen digital literacy among the public.

Among the key highlights that drew strong interest from visitors were:

•Rural E-Commerce Class: Providing guidance to local entrepreneurs on how to market village products through digital platforms such as TikTok Shop.

•Cybersecurity Demonstration “Avoid Online Scams”: An interactive session to help participants identify fraudulent messages and fake websites.

•E-Wallet and Digital Banking Clinic: Guiding participants on the safe use of financial applications.

•Digital Rakyat Portal: A free online learning portal for the public offering six modules on emerging technologies, including AI for the People, Generative AI, AI Fluency, CyberSAFE for the People, Cloud for the People, and Blockchain for the People.

The carnival also featured a Creative TikTok Competition, Interactive Digital Quizzes (Kahoot!), and digital health check-ups, making it an inclusive platform that attracted participants from all walks of life, ranging from children to senior citizens.

The organisation of the CAKNA Digital Carnival 2025 is expected to have a positive impact on the local community through enhanced digital literacy, the creation of new economic opportunities for rural entrepreneurs, the strengthening of social networks, and active community participation in the national digitalisation agenda. In addition, the programme promotes Lenggong as a progressive digital community destination, in line with the Government’s aspiration to develop an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Programmes such as this not only extend digital access to rural areas, but also strengthen the community’s ability to use technology confidently and safely, in line with the goal of building a competitive, ethical, and resilient digital Malaysia.

Also present were YBrs. Tuan Ma. Sivanesan A/L Marimuthu @ Muthiah, Deputy Secretary-General (Digital Development) of the Ministry of Digital; YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia; as well as senior officials from the Ministry.
