Members of the Media,
and distinguished guests.
Greetings of Unity, Greetings of Malaysia MADANI, and a very Good Morning.
1.Before I begin, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to MYNIC for organizing the program "Preparing for Tomorrow’s Threat: The Impact of Quantum Computing on Internet Security."
2.The organization of this program is truly timely, aligning with the nation's current needs as we navigate the increasingly rapid and challenging waves of digital transformation.
3.In this modern era, cybersecurity is no longer merely a technical option. It is the primary backbone that guarantees the sustainability of the nation's digital economy.
4.Without a robust cyber ecosystem, our economic stability and data sovereignty will remain constantly under threat. Although we have fortified our digital ecosystem by tightening existing laws and introducing various new initiatives, we require a more comprehensive and proactive approach to face the evolving cyber threat landscape.
A NEW ERA: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF QUANTUM COMPUTING
Ladies and Gentlemen,
5.Today, we are stepping into a new era led by disruptive technologies, most notably quantum computing.
6.While this technology promises an extraordinary leap in processing power, it also has the potential to drastically alter the global digital security landscape. We must realize that quantum computing power is capable of breaking existing cryptographic codes that have served as the protectors of our data for so long.
7.Therefore, the nation must prepare well in advance to face serious implications regarding data protection and information integrity. The transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) has now become an urgent necessity as a forward-looking security measure.
8.Through the implementation of this cryptography, we can ensure that the Domain Name System (DNS) remains secure by replacing the cryptographic protocols within DNSSEC that are currently at risk of exposure to quantum threats.
THE IMPORTANCE OF DNS AND NATIONAL CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Distinguished Guests,
9.DNS is a fundamental and highly critical internet infrastructure; it acts as the "phonebook" of the digital world, connecting users to the correct destinations.
10.However, this infrastructure is not immune to threats. This is where the role of DNSSEC, or Domain Name System Security Extensions, becomes vital.
11.The importance of DNSSEC extends beyond individual protection; it safeguards the digital ecosystem from phishing attacks and ensures information integrity to enhance public trust in the internet.
12.In this regard, I am very proud of the collaborative efforts between MYNIC and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) in conducting DNSSEC training, which has successfully trained over 200 participants from various sectors, including government, industry, and academia.
STRATEGIC COLLABORATION AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Ladies and Gentlemen,
13.Our success in confronting these threats depends entirely on the strength of our synergy. Close cooperation between the government, industry leaders, and academia is the primary key to building a formidable defense.
14.Today's program serves as the best platform to strengthen the sharing of expertise and to align strategies for the sake of national interest.
15.Beyond infrastructure, focus must also be given to talent development and digital leadership. We need to produce more local experts who are skilled in the fields of cybersecurity and future technologies.
16.Training initiatives such as DNSSEC form the foundation for developing competent technical human capital. I urge all participants to remain diligent in enhancing your skills, so that we do not merely remain as technology users, but instead become pioneers of digital security solutions.
17.Accordingly, the Ministry of Digital and the Government will continue to support initiatives led by agencies such as MYNIC. We also wish to see programs like this further empowered to ensure the nation remains one step ahead in facing global threats.
18.In closing, I call upon all parties to play an active role in preserving our digital ecosystem. The preparations we make today will determine our level of security in the future.
19.Let us work together to make Malaysia a resilient, secure, and trusted nation within the global digital space.
20.My thanks to everyone involved in making this program a success. I hope that the insights, input, and suggestions voiced today will deliver a high impact and lasting benefits to us all.
Thank you.
